WHO WE ARE

The Waterside Centre is a vibrant, welcoming space created especially for young people.

We are a not for profit organisation operated and funded by the charity
Berkshire Youth. Together, we are committed to giving young people a place where they feel safe, supported and inspired.

Communities are often full of places for adults to go and things for them to do. Young people deserve that too. The Waterside Centre exists to make sure they have somewhere that belongs to them. A place to spend time with friends, try new activities, learn new skills and simply enjoy being young.

Everything we do is built around the belief that young people matter. When young people have safe spaces, positive role models and opportunities to grow, they gain the confidence and skills they need to shape their futures.

Our mission is simple. We exist for young people.

We believe every young person deserves somewhere safe to go, supportive adults to talk to and opportunities to have fun, learn and grow.
Young people are the future of our communities. By investing in them today, we help create stronger, healthier communities tomorrow.

At the Waterside Centre, our commitment is to make sure every young person who walks through our doors feels they belong.

HOW WE HELP

At the Waterside Centre our team of youth workers run regular youth clubs, holiday clubs and a wide range of activities designed to help young people build confidence, friendships and life skills. Our programmes give young people the chance to try new things, take on challenges and discover what they are capable of. Just as importantly, they provide a place where young people know they are welcome and valued.

Alongside our youth work, the centre also supports the wider community. During the school day and at weekends the building is used for a range of community activities including baby and toddler groups, fitness classes, craft groups and a community larder. These groups help bring people together, strengthen local connections and make the centre a welcoming place for everyone.

By creating opportunities for both young people and the wider community, we help build a stronger, more connected community with young people at its heart.

CASE STUDIES

Take a look at a just some of our work below to see our work in action, and how we help young people overcome challenges and achieve real impact.

Youth Playing Pool

Tim, Waterside Centre

When Tim* first came along to the Mix, the SEND youth club at the Waterside Centre, he was quiet, unsure of himself and lacking in confidence. He stayed within what felt safe and familiar, hesitant to try new activities or engage beyond the group, and unsure of his place among others.

Youth Soccer Training

Sam, Waterside Centre

Sam* joined Berkshire Youth after being referred through the Supporting Families List. Having experienced neglect and domestic violence, Sam was living with his grandmother, separated from his sibling.
