West Berkshire Youth Dance Company (Westies)

West Berkshire Youth Dance Company, of which there are two companies,  Junior and Senior, was established in 2000 as part of an initiative to support gifted and talented dancers in West Berkshire. The groups are based here at the Waterside Centre in Newbury.

The auditioned companies mainly work in contemporary dance and have opportunities for members to perform in showcases and festivals throughout the year. The dancers have technical class and rehearsals every week, which gives them a taste of training in dance at a professional level.

Graduates of WBYDC have gone on to train professionally at prestigious dance schools such as London Contemporary Dance School, Laban, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Millennium Performing Arts, LIPA, London Studio Centre,  Bird College of Dance, IAB Barcelona, Read College and the University of Chichester.

Auditions for a place in either company take place during September and candidates are expected to take part in an audition class. Juniors are aged 12 years+ and Seniors from 15 years+.

Senior Westies meet at Waterside Centre on Fridays, 4.30pm–6pm.
